Use the same level of simplicity that you would use when describing where the milk on their cereal comes from.

If they want to know more, like how the egg and sperm get together, you can say:

‘The sperm leaves the penis and goes into the vagina. The sperm then finds the egg, they join together and grow into a baby’.
