In 1997, McKinsey introduced ´the war for talents’ to describe the competition between businesses for top talents. Corporations started deploying their best resources to cultivate a pool of talents in order to succeed in highly competitive environments!


Well, if every single employee is recruited as a ´talent’…So who are the chosen ones in the talent pool?


They are called HiPos*…

They do everything right and you can see patterns of excellence in their work…they work hard and smart, they stay ahead of the game but this is not really what makes them stand out in an equally talented crowd.


If you want to be part of ‘la crème de la crème’ and rise higher in your career, here is 3- steps victory formula:

  1. Get noticed but be your authentic self- Top level talents are usually known for something specific and they spice up their talent with their personal touch.

  2. Be passionate about people and promote collaborative leadership- You can never be successful alone. As we say in Africa ´one hand can’t clap’. Simple, hold the door open for others, and they will open doors & windows for you…

  3. Become a networking master- Well well…I personnaly failed big at this one!

Believe it or not, connections are more important than skills. Find a group of people to support you and help enable the opportunities you are trying to embrace. They will defend your interests behind closed doors and boost your career. Unfortunately being HiPo without sponsors is just an illusion!


We live in a world crazy for talents…the truth is everyone is talented in their own way…
