Camaraderie…

I recently shared one of the most precious moments with my dad. We went back in time to a place that is dear to him; to visit the people that are dear to him- his military unit!

We are in 1968, As we flip through the pages of his album, I saw him leading his team as it is happening right in front of my eyes…

I was absolutely stunned to hear names, stories down to the smallest details….as if he just retired yesterday. 54 years later, he is still calling each and every one of them “camarade”…

Turning the last page of the album, he shared with me the secret that every great team knows. What made his unit physically, mentally and emotionally connected… The moral foundations of their values and standards…

He looked at me and said : “People follow each other for one and only one reason-Trust, Trust and Trust!”

Mutual trust is what gave them a feeling of security while serving in the most uncertain and dangerous places…He trusted his camarades with his “life”…And he put it to test in many occasions. He then said: Trust is earned. As leaders, we can’t grow trust unless we place ourselves in a vulnerable position. Trust and risk don’t exist without each other!

Trust also means that you should “Treat others as you expect to be treated”. It is all about respecting and treating people decently….being honest with yourself and camarades….putting others’ need before your own. …And love is the most precious currency of all!”

Always remember that Trust, Integrity, Loyalty and Respect are hard to win but very easy to lose!
